Partnerships Department
Equality, respect, mutual responsibility and interdependence are part of building relationships among Anglicans and other Christians, in Canada and internationally. This is done in three program areas: Partners in Mission, EcoJustice, and the Anglican Healing Fund.
Partners in Mission staff foster inter-Anglican and ecumenical partnerships in Africa, Asia, the South Pacific, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. The Partners in Mission and Ecojustice Committee oversees all of this work.
The Global Relations Coordinator, as well as designated representatives of the Anglican Church of Canada, travels widely throughout the Anglican Communion…
- To meet with Anglican and ecumenical partners
- To help partners connect with one another
- To administer our church's financial grants to support the mission priorities of Provinces of the Anglican Communion.
The Volunteers in Mission program places Canadian mission personnel with partners overseas, where they share skills and learn about other cultures and other parts of the Anglican Communion. Volunteers keep in touch with their parishes and dioceses through letters and photographs.
The Theological Students’ International Intern Program helps Canadian theological students to participate in a three-month summer placement in other parts of the Anglican Communion. These placements offer valuable cross-cultural experience before ordination.
Partners in Mission staff communicate with a network of diocesan mission volunteers to inform them about what is happening in the worldwide Anglican Communion. They also assist dioceses to form international links through the Companion Diocese Program.
Strengthening justice partnerships in Canada
“EcoJustice” is the umbrella term for the Anglican Church of Canada's work in social, economic and environmental justice and peace building, within the church and with ecumenical social justice organizations. Ecojustice staff support justice and advocacy workers in dioceses and parishes across Canada, and ensure Anglican participation in the governance and advocacy initiatives of ecumenical coalitions. The Partners in Mission and Ecojustice Committee monitors social policy and develops position papers on current issues so that the church’s prophetic voice can be heard in a broader context.
The Indigenous Justice Round Table gathers Anglican and ecumenical partners annually to share information, and to identify and recommend action on justice priorities relating to Indigenous peoples in Canada and globally.
The Anglican Healing Fund addresses the healing legacy of the abuses experienced by many in church-operated Indian residential schools and the wider legacy of colonialism in Canada. The Healing Fund coordinator works with other Partnerships staff to advocate for racial justice in the wider church, and to support Indigenous peoples in Canada and globally in their struggle for justice, self-determination, healing, and spiritual renewal.
