cottrell-newShannon Cottrell has worked for the Anglican Church of Canada in the area of financial development since 2002.  Throughout her ministry she has served in a number of roles: donations clerk for the Anglican Appeal, General Synod’s annual direct mail program; donor relations coordinator, working on the Letting Down the Nets initiative; Anglican Appeal and donor relations coordinator; and donor relations and volunteer coordinator.

Now coordinator of resource development, research, and donor relations, Ms. Cottrell is involved in creating resources that support annual appeals and other departmental initiatives. She also conducts research in support of major and strategic gift initiatives and develops and implements a donor relations program that thanks and engages donors. As part of this donor relations work, Ms. Cottrell runs Treasured Talents, an online program that recognizes and gives thanks for the church’s volunteers. Since joining her colleagues in Resources for Mission, Ms. Cottrell has enjoyed getting to know the church’s donors and is continually inspired by the reasons behind their passionate generosity.

Ms. Cottrell is a graduate of St. Jerome’s University, University of Waterloo, where she studied history and drama. She has taken a number of courses through the Association of Fundraising Professions (AFP), including their Essentials of Fundraising Program. Currently, she is a member of AFP and was previously a member of the Association of Donor Relations Professionals (ADRP) and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP).

When not working, Ms. Cottrell is actively involved in community theatre in Toronto and has often worked as a producer. She has received two ACT-CO (Association of Community Theatres—Central Ontario) Thea Award nominations for her work as producer on a musical and a drama.
