Suzanne Lawson is a part-time staff person working as coordinator of Together in Mission. For five years in the 1990s, she was General Synod’s executive director of program. Ms. Lawson brings years of experience as a volunteer with the General Synod and the Diocese of Toronto. Her secular salaried work experience was predominantly in the voluntary health sector where she held executive positions at the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Arthritis Society, ALS Canada, and the Hospital for Sick Children.

As General Synod embarks with dioceses on a coordinated financial development initiative, Ms. Lawson’s role is to be the bridge between the dioceses and the fundraising council, between General Synod and the dioceses, and between dioceses so all can learn from each other.

Ms. Lawson has a BA from Queen’s University, Kingston, and holds a Certification in Volunteer Administration. She has received the (former) International Association for Volunteer Administration’s lifetime achievement award, and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her contribution to Canada’s voluntary health sector. She and a colleague, Marilyn MacKenzie, offer diocesan training workshops in church volunteer administration. Ms. Lawson also devotes time to consulting with voluntary organizations and to roles as a leadership volunteer in her community and beyond.

Ms. Lawson lives in Cobourg, Ont., and is an active member of St. Peter’s Church. A clergy widow, she knows a good deal about life in parishes. A mother to Jamie and Sara, mother-in-law to Feng, and MumMum to Maggie in Toronto, she deeply values her family and friends. She also devours novels.
