This project aims towards creating: a 12-week support group program, two 3-day weekend retreats and a one day forum for Aboriginal men to find their roles within themselves and the family unit.  The program will explore the impacts of colonialism and assimilation practices, the traditional and spiritual practices and how these teachings can be put into practice today.  (Diocese of Edmonton)</p>

<strong>Mosakahiken Cree Nation Cultural Healing Program</strong><br />
The purpose of this project is to reintroduce the seven sacred teachings: respect, honesty, courage, wisdom, humility, love and truth to the members of Mosakahiken Cree Nation.  The loss of these teachings have greatly impacted the people of Mosakahiken Cree Nation and much of it stemmed from the residential school system.  (Diocese of Brandon)</p>

The grant will allow the diocese to hold community talking and sharing circles that will be led by the four archdeacons from northern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.  The talking circles will provide a safe forum for IRS survivors and other community members to share their stories, and provide direction for future healing and reconciliation work.  (Diocese of Keewatin)</p>

This project is designed to focus on the healing of First Nations women through a 9-month empowerment program.  The effects of residential school system have left a deep scar on many, and not only have they endured emotional and sexual abuse while attending residential school, many have entered adulthood unprepared for what lay ahead.  Leading to unhealthy lifestyles, consisting of drug and alcohol abuse has led many women down a path of turmoil and self-destruction.  This program will offer tools they need in life to self heal using traditional methods, various workshops, and a variety of physical activities.  (Diocese of Caledonia)</p>

<strong>Revision of Writing System for the Development of a Tukudh (Gwich’in) Hymn Book</strong><br />
The Gwich’in Social and Culture Institute identified the need for the production of 900 hymnals to accompany the CDs recorded in 2006-2007.  The hymnals and CDs will contain 19 hymns in the Gwich’in Language orthography.  This will enable the younger generation who have learned their language and who are able to read the Gwich’in Langauge orthography to participate in singing of old hymns.  Thus providing a link between Elders and young people.  (Diocese of Artic)</p>

<strong>The Return of The Original Anishnabe Teachings: an exchange venue, facilitated by the Wabanakis Elders and by the Ojibway Elders on the Great Migration.</strong><br />
To bring Ojibway Elders and Wabanaki Elders together to share stories and teachings on the great migration of the Ojibways to the Eastern Door.  These stories and teachings were almost lost after the European contact, and virtually became completely unknown during the residential school era.  Today, the stories remain with only a few who remember the ancient bundles.  (Diocese of Fredericton)</p>

The grant allow the local group to continue the healing work through home visits to the sick and shut ins, referral services, personal healing prayer, spiritual guidance, healing circles, cultural teachings and ceremonies, celebrations and feasts, Annual Kateri Native Ministry Conferences, etc. (Diocese of Moosonee)</p>

The purpose of the conference is to help heal the youth in Pond Inlet and other north Baffin communities. The youth deal with many issues, such as, suicide, grieving, drug abuse, depression, teenage pregnancy, abortions, sexual abuse, spousal abuse, bullying, etc. (Diocese of Artic)</p>

The purpose of the project is to sponsor 3 people to attend Survivors of Abuse Leadership Training Seminar in April 2008. The three candidates must be fluent in the Oji-Cree language so that they can be involved in the development of Oji-Cree language teaching resources. SALTS is a 5-day intensive training seminar for survivors of abuse who wish to advance in their healing journey, and to gain skills so that they can lead others in healing journeys. The diocese has worked hard to build a positive, healthy relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and have struggled to succeed. The diocese believes that an Anti-Racism training, built on the model used by General Synod for training of committees and councils of the national church will be very helpful to improve relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal. The day-long training modules will take place in the context of regular meetings of the committees, councils and boards of General Synod. The three councils, 6 standing committees, and 2 boards meet twice per year over a period of 3-5 days. They represent a total participation from across Canada of about 250 people. </strong>The project consists of a congratulatory and commemorative banquet/feast to honour the passage of the first claimants through the resolution process and to begin to mark closure for them. The intent is to further validate the experience of these individuals through a formal observance where members of their community and the broader North Island community may demonstrate their respect and pay tribute to them. A total of 80 – 100 elders are ultimately expected to take part in this process over the next 18 months. The grant is to support a special banquet/feast to mark the beginning of this process. Canoe journeys constituted an integral part of the coastal Aboriginal people’s way of life in the past. Thus, the Tribal Journeys were brought back during the 1997 Indigenous Games celebrations in Victoria, BC. There had not been any tribal journeys since the times of the potlatch prohibition when it was illegal for Aboriginal peoples to gather. In the canoe journey, the canoe pullers undergo a personal and collective spiritual quest. Part of this quest involves undergoing strenuous physical training and developing a focus on team trust and commitment. (Diocese of British Columbia)</p>

In the spring of 2005, the Elders will lead the following workshops: the Sundance Ceremony and Wiping of Tears Ceremony, the Smudge Ceremony and the traditional way to pick sage, the Medicine Wheel and its importance of Aboriginal communities, and the story and significance of Native Pictographs and Petroglyphs. Then during the summer, 12 youth will accompany the Elders to witness a Sundance Ceremony in Manitoba. The Kaska women in the area have been on the front lines dealing with the fall-out of the residential schools. These women work and live in communities with extreme violence in every form. They are often subjected to lateral violence from those they are helping. Living in unhealthy communities these women are rarely acknowledged or have time to heal themselves. The project proposes to take 15 women on a 5-day retreat for healing. The women will learn self-care, participate in traditional sharing circles, establish a buddy system and learn how to create and live a healthy lifestyle. Traditional healers will be brought in to assist the women in their healing process. (Diocese of Yukon)</p>

</strong>In 2001, a residential school conference was held in the community of Moose Factory, the location of two former residential schools : Moose Factory Indian Residential School and Horden Hall Residential School. A number of recommendations resulted from the conference and two of the recommendations are: to hold bi-annual gatherings and to establish a memorial to honour those who attended the schools. The two-day gathering will address long term healing and the development plans of a memorial that will adequately commemorate the resiliency of the Mushkegowuk peoples. (Diocese of Moosonee)</p>

In the past, the answers to healing has always been to send an individual out of the community to a westernized institution – hundreds of miles from home, isolated from his/her family and alienated from their culture and environment. By offering numerous interdependent opportunities, the project will be providing youth with a myriad of skills crucial to helping them get off the streets and staying off the streets, before they are caught up in a never-ending cycle of homelessness, alcohol and substance abuse, life-threatening and sexually-transmitted diseases, teenage pregnancy, poverty and crime. The five-day gathering will include: sharing circles, traditional ceremonies, social activities and other learning activities that have emerged out of a need to provide cultural training appropriate for the sensitivities of the Aboriginal peoples in the area. This treatment program will incorporate First Nations culture, traditions and specialized contemporary approaches to healing the mental, emotional, and spiritual well being of Aboriginal adults and their families from the eleven First Nation communities surrounding Fort Qu&#8217;Appelle , SK. This project is one component of a larger program designed to address the impacts of residential schools, including the multi generational effects. This particular component will address the legacy of childhood abuse in residential school and its intergenerational impacts. (Diocese of Qu’Appelle)</p>

The coordinator of the project will interview people from various First Nation communities on a variety of issues; such as, residential school experiences, history related stories, strengthening networks, and creating new partnerships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples. Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Ceremonies</strong><br />
The grant will enable the community to revive and restore its cultural and traditional practices by introducing the Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Ceremonies. The purpose of providing traditional teachings to the community is to enable the people to make choices that will enable them to retain their cultural identity while participating in all aspects of life including political, economic and social life. They will participate with full knowledge and respect for their cultural values, languages, traditions and forms of social organization. These ceremonies and many others were almost completely extinguished by the residential school system and other federal government policies. The result of this has been that majority of the youth and many adult community members are unable to communicate in their first language and have never learned their traditional ways. Loss of identity has contributed to the alienation that has driven many youth to destructive behaviors. (Diocese of Moosonee)</p>

The project will integrate traditional and conventional healing and wellness activities and will involve healing professionals from both within and outside the Kaska Dena community. The gathering will be a combined youth revival and Sharing of Ministries Aboard (SOMA) conference. The participants of the gathering will come from: Iqaluit, Kimmirut, Pangnirtung, Clyde River , Cape Dorset and Qikiqtarjuaq. This weeklong gathering will be held on November 12-17, 2003 in Iqaluit. Healing and reconciliation workshops for victims of residential school abuse will be held in a number of communities in the northern part of the diocese. This process is an effort by the Aboriginal people, including the clergy of the diocese to make healing and reconciliation meaningful for the Aboriginal communities. Colonial school system will be addressed in the way that is determined by the peoples and cultural values, traditions and history will be incorporated. (Diocese of Brandon)</p>
<p><strong>Diocese of Rupert&#8217;s Land &#8211; The Indigenous Council of Rupert&#8217;s Land – Winnipeg, MB<br />

A Sacred Mission of Healing</strong><br />
The Indigenous Council of Rupert&#8217;s Land will host its second gathering ‘A Sacred Mission of Healing&#8217; in the fall of 2003. This gathering is a direct result and a follow-up to the Sacred Circle in June of 2002 held on the grounds of the historic St. Peter&#8217;s Anglican Church near the banks of the Red River , where the original Peguis Reserve was located. The purpose of the event is to continue the process of healing and reconciliation directly in the First Nation Community of Peguis. The Indigenous Council is working in partnership with the Parish of St. Aiden&#8217;s in Winnipeg on this project. As a lead up to its participation, some members of St. Aiden&#8217;s will attend Peguis Days at St. Peter. Dynevor in June at which time they will meet with people from the Peguis First Nation. Walk in Balance Wellness Conference is a three-day educational event for the First Nations people in Northeastern BC . The conference activities will be based on an integrated and holistic model that is used to help guide people along a path of balance. (Diocese of Caledonia)</p>

</strong>This program presents a variety of program activities throughout the year for children between the ages 6 to 13. The overall program is designed especially for children affected by poverty, isolation, residential school intergenerational impacts and alcohol and/or substance abuse. The programming area includes: recreation, education, social, health promotion, remedial work, Aboriginal culture and language, and social support.<br />
The primary goal of the initiative is to provide children with a positive self-image, promote a desire for learning, and opportunities to participate in community activities. The grant will allow for acquisition of program supplies. (Diocese of Moosonee)</p>
<p><strong>Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Health &amp; Wellness Society &#8211; Creston , BC<br />

Re-Parenting Staff Training</strong><br />
This training will prepare the staff of Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Wellness Centre to provide a holistic, family oriented residential school healing program to its clients. The project will provide those who attended residential schools with an on going, holistic healing opportunities that will include families and communities &#8211; to become independent. It will also help improve both the churches&#8217; and the general public&#8217;s misunderstanding of the Ktunaza people&#8217;s history and culture, promoting healing and fostering improved relationships. The Kwakiutl Band Council will work with ‘Youth at Risk&#8217; in addressing the intergenerational impacts of residential school issues by developing and implementing a 12-week course in Kwatiutle language, culture and traditions. This grant will assist the community of Lac Seul to develop a healing strategy for its community members that are still struggling with trauma and other negative experiences as a result of residential schools. The healing strategy will include social issues, educational awareness, gatherings, circle sharing, building parenting and relationship skills, etc. The process will include the descendants of the former residential school students. A Reunion and a Traditional Healing Gathering</strong><br />
Lake of the Woods Ojibway Cultural Centre on behalf of the Anishinabek Survivors of Residential Schools will hold a Reunion and Traditional Gathering at the site of the McIntosh Residential School . The purpose of this gathering is to teach some Ojibway traditional skills to the participants including the descendants of the survivors and the non-Aboriginal peoples. In addition to the learning of traditional skills, the participants will have an opportunity to participate in traditional healing ceremonies such as a sweat lodge. Among the topics of discussion will be the questions of forgiveness and where do we go from here. (Diocese of Keewatin )</p>
<p><strong>Liard Aboriginal Women&#8217;s Society &#8211; Watson Lake, YK<br />

Kaska Project – Language and Culture Immersion Program</strong><br />
The Society will hold a 2-week Kaska Language and Cultural Immersion Program for the five Kaska communities &#8211; Good Hope Lake , Fort Ware , Watson Lake , Lower Post and Ross River &#8211; in the summer of 2003. Given the cultural genocide of the residential school, many Kaska members are inflicted with addiction, low self-esteem, lack of spirituality, loss of language and identity. The Society members have been working to restore cultural and traditional practices and language for the past three years. The activities of the event will include language lessons, hunting, preserving meat, traditional medicines and fishing. These activities will all be offered in the traditional ways and in the traditional language of the people. (Diocese of Yukon)</p>

Intergenerational Family Circle Project</strong><br />
History, tradition, roles, relationships and family rules were always learned and shared at family circles. The children need to be a part of these family circle times in order to understand family, community roles and responsibilities. In the era of residential schools, families lost all opportunity to have family circles, and the intergenerational sharing of information, knowledge, culture and traditions was lost for many people. The Family Circle Project is to re-establish some of this family spirit. (Diocese of Kootenay)</p>

The NEXT Generation is a touring youth Drama Workshop Presentation that uses music and humor to provide education and address making healthy choices with regard to drug and alcohol abuse and other high-risk behavior; such as suicide. The Association hopes that the presentations will contribute to long-term future of the communities visited by dealing with the root issues of abuse such as self-esteem and peer pressure. The desired outcome of this project will be to provide positive coping strategies in dealing with the high risk behaviour and emphasize choices of positive behaviors. The Nuxalk Nation has made several accomplishments pertaining to language preservation and revitalization beginning with the documentation of Nuxalk Language to curriculum development, the training of its language teachers to the implementation of the language programs in the schools. Now, Nuxalk Nation has entered into partnership with Simon Fraser University to provide a Nuxalk Language Proficiency Certificate Program for those who wish to learn the language and wish to speak it, write it, and teachers who wish to teaching skills. Each person in this training series has either attended a residential school or their parents have, and each has been impacted by that experience. Each person is either recovering from alcoholic or others forms of addiction, and therefore each day is a recovery. The Swampy Cree Tribal Council is in the process of implementing the Eagle Quest Youth Development Program that will provide the First Nation Communities in its service area with a year round youth programs for ages 12 to 18.<br />
The purpose of this program is to provide positive choices to the youth. Many of the youth in these First Nation communities are confronted with problems of suicide, suicide attempts, lack of self-esteem, stress, peer pressure, school dropouts and the attractiveness of belonging to a gang. The training will address one of the steps towards healing &#8211; forgiveness. Many individuals, especially the victims of abuse and former residential students struggle with the concept and process of forgiveness. They are often told to ‘forgive and forget&#8217;, thus, leading them to denial and suppression their feelings. As a result, these feelings are often acted out in inappropriate was including substance abuse and violence against each other, family and self – suicide. (Diocese of Keewatin)</p>

</strong>The first goal of the Wheel of Life Project is community and individual empowerment.  The project will establish a focus group that will travel to five First Nation communities to conduct healing workshops. The focus group will include: a member from each community, a professional therapist, an elder and staff coordinating the program. The community workshops will primarily focus on sharing and healing circles, and counseling. (Diocese of Keewatin)</p>

This project consists of language restoration and culture to bring about healing and wholeness to the community life. But due to infusion of modern society there has been a rapid decline of the Ojibway language and speakers among the Anishnaabe people. The gathering will provide opportunities for survivors of the residential school system to share stories, to gain better self-awareness and self-worth through teaching, sharing and prayer, while providing a learning opportunity to those who wish to gain a better understanding of the trauma and pain lived by those who survived the system.</p>

Healthy Grieving Conference<br />
</strong>The Daylu Dena Council will host a 3-day healthy grieving conference in Watson Lake and surrounding communities. The need for this specific grieving conference is evident in the area. Survivors of Residential School and their families largely populate the Watson Lake area, and the responses to the loss of culture and family are visible by the numbers of families suffering from various forms of violence, substance abuse, lack of parenting skills, lack of healthy coping skills and high rates of traumatic deaths in the communities. Families also suffer from lack of self-esteem, impacting on their ability to be self-sustaining and economically independent. (Diocese of Yukon)</p>

The activities will focus on the crucial role that traditional spirituality plays in the well being of an Aboriginal person, Aboriginal families and their communities. This role is tremendously more significant than in the secularized general Canadian society.</p>

</strong>The Family Wellness workshops will be held in various locations within the diocese. Two members from each community will be invited to attend the workshops. The training will allow the participants to be more able to adequately intervene, counsel, and assist and support families in crisis. There will be ongoing training, support, and assistance for the participants in their home communities.</p>

</strong>The Change of Seasons project is a program for counselling Aboriginal men who have behaved abusively and violently towards their female partners/wives. The Society uses a 28 session group model consisting of five components: the Aboriginal Men’s Domestic Violence Group, the Aboriginal Men’s Anger Management Group, the Community Awareness Program and One-to-One Counselling. Prior to admission, each new client undergoes an intake assessment to determine if he can benefit from participating in a group. (Diocese of New Westminster)</p>

The Esquimalt Nation will begin this project by hiring a family support worker to develop and coordinate programs that will set the foundation for a larger two-year program. The activities of the program will include: one-to-one counseling, counseling for the immediate family and provide opportunities to strengthen the support from the extended family.<br />

<p><strong>Grollier Hall Residential School Healing Circle – Yellowknife, NWT<br />

ADR Redress and Reconciliation Process</strong><br />
The Grollier Hall Residential School Healing Circle request is to complete the Alternative Dispute Resolution process. This process began in 1997 when a former student of Grollier Hall disclosed that he had been sexually abused during his stay at the school. Based on the investigations and statements of a number of former students, 50 sex-related charges have been laid against 3 former supervisors. Some convictions have already occurred. Now 2002, this will be the final task of the ADR Process for the former residential schools students. Participants have been working with the church and government to develop a process that is humane, compassionate, and mindful of indigenous peoples’ traditions and yet has safeguards to ensure that claims are validated and damages assessed. The end-result is the individual settlements for those claims that have been validated, and community programs for healing and reconciliation. (Diocese of Yukon)</p>

This is a sequel to the 1999 and 2000 events that were held in The Pas. This third gathering, Hope for our Youth, will again focus on the youth. A youth group from the Church of the Messiah will be assisting in planning the workshops. The Gospel Jamboree event will include evening musical program, testimonies, prayers and healing ministry. The evening programs will be broadcasted on the radio in order to reach as many northern communities and will also be video taped. (Diocese of Brandon)</p>
<p><strong>Hinton Friendship Centre &#8211; Hinton, SK<br />

Community Wellness Program</strong><br />
The Hinton Friendship Centre will train 5-6 support workers to work with the victims of sexual abuse in Hinton and communities in the surrounding area. The Community Wellness Program works with the whole family and not just the victim or the offender. The Centre has also been working with the Alberta Justice to put protocols in place for the judicial system, as this program is an alternative to incarceration for the offender. The program works only with one type of offender and that is the regressed offender, as this type of offender generally only offends within the family unit. Once the family accepts the conditions of the program, they enter. The family is required to attend individual and group therapy for 18-24 months while each member is required to attend 20-25 hours of therapy per month. After the completion of the program, there is a 5-year follow-up. (Diocese of Edmonton)</p>

A committee of concerned community members and frontline workers decided to host an event that will address some of the important issues the people of Indian Brook are facing. The community has a large population of former residential school students and their families, and the long term affects of that experience is clearly visible today. Through workshops, the conference will outline the impacts of the residential school experience and its inter-generational impacts. Some of the impacts of this experience has been suicides, attempted suicides and an increase of violence, alcohol and drug abuse and related issues. (Diocese of NS &amp; PEI)</p>

</strong>The Society will engage the Nechi Training Institute to provide the Training of Trainers Program to the First Nations people of Chase, BC area. This training provides basic knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to work at a community level. The trainers will facilitate the learning of the participants as adult learners, and blend that learning process with traditional techniques of instruction and experiential learning. Lectures will be interspersed with group activities and a strong emphasis is placed on the maximum involvement of the trainees. (Diocese of Kootenay)</p>

This group is a volunteer group with a deep commitment to create on-going programs for inner city children, youth and survivors of the residential schools. The Indigenous Council of Rupert’s Land will host its first Rupert&#8217;s Land Sacred Circle on the grounds of the historic St. Peter&#8217;s Anglican Church near the banks of Red River, where the original Peguis Reserve was located. The focus will be on healing and reconciliation. Non-Aboriginal peoples will be invited to participate in talking circles and traditional ceremony. The major features of the event will include the Doctrine of Discovery with local testimony from delegates concerning treaty land and Residential Schools.</p>

Protecting the Saanich Language</strong><br />
The Saanich Heritage Society will research and develop a book illustrating month-to-month activities that can be used by youth groups, training, education, daycare and other members of the communities. Researching and writing about Saanich culture will have the latent effect of instilling pride in the language and culture of the Saanich people. Every project the Heritage Society undertakes is important because of the loss of language and culture people experienced at the Residential Schools. Week long seminars will also be conducted in a number of First Nation communities where former residential school students will have opportunities to share stories in a safe environment. The Healing and Reconciliation Community Gathering in Pond Inlet will bring together 10 Inuit clergy who will provide leadership at this event. The community had expressed a concern that over the past 30 years, many community members had passed away, and family members who reside in various communities in the Arctic were unable to be with family during the tragedy or any other time due to travel costs involved. This has been the case for all the Anglican clergy. Therefore, this gathering is a time for families, who have been separated for a very long time, to be with one another, attend various community activities and begin the healing process as a family. This gathering will include a 3-day camping experience where workshops on traditional uses of plants will be taught, traditional food preparation and preservation, cedar basket weaving and sharing circles for all ages. There will also be a day of canoeing and it will conclude with a community feast. (Diocese of British Columbia)</p>

</strong>The UNBITI will sponsor a training program to train residential school survivors and their children from the First Nations in NB and PEI to be Parenting Skills Trainers in their First Nation Community. The organization will train two trainers from each Band. The trainees will be required to train others from their Bands. Following this initial training the UNBITI will work with those trained as instructors and assist them in organizing Parenting Skills Workshops in their communities. This year the program will expand through a contact at Pikangikum First Nation (N-W Ontario). The youth and a mentor work and meet each day for social analysis around the causes of poverty and issues faced by people on social assistance and for reflection and prayer, cross-cultural exchanges. The Northwest Gathering of Survivors of Residential School in Dauphin will be the first such gathering for the Metis people in this region. The gathering will offer workshops that focus on the intergenerational impacts that still affect the Metis people. The participants will also be given an opportunity to provide their input and concerns in program and resource development. (Diocese of Brandon)</p>

The Family Support Worker will conduct healing workshops, sharing circles, lead or assist in sweat lodges and work closely with individuals, and their families, that have been affected by the residential school system. Stardale provides lifeskills, literacy, job training and advocacy to women living in poverty and abusive situations. Its primary program goals are to empower the lives of women, and through them empower their families and communities. In 1977, Stardale conducted a study to determine the needs of their clients, and developed its programming to those needs. However, the job market for these women was found to be limited due in part to the poor economic base in the province and to racism. Because of this, the organization established &#8216;Stardale Artistic Cooperative Limited&#8217; where clients can work towards their healing while at the same time learning an artistic form and in this case &#8211; weaving. Thus the goal is to assist women to strive towards the goal of self-sufficiency with the assistance of education on business planning and marketing. (Diocese of Saskatchewan)</p>

Currently, they have a mental health therapist on reserve who only provides therapy for short-term crisis intervention provided by MSB-Health Canada. This grant will provide for travel costs to visit elders at their home who are unable to come to the Health Centre and the school where children/youth have issues and problems in relation to alcohol and drugs, suicide and anger, violence, pregnancy, etc. (Diocese of Athabasca)</p>

Esgenoopetitj is currently engaged in a struggle with the Canadian government over fishing rights. Despite Supreme Court sanctions for First Nation access to the fishery, the federal government has responded to Esgenoopetitj fishing with force and violence. The residents have been working to respond and intervene to keep the community calm and productive in the midst of this challenge, but often feel isolated in its attempts to move forward to right relationships within the community, the government and the non-native communities. The project will address the crisis and the trauma brought about by confrontations with Canadian government officials and from the non-native communities. (Diocese of Fredericton)</p>

The community of Sagkeeng First Nation has approximately 5000 people. The residential school there was run by the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglicans were sent off to schools in Brandon or Dauphin, Man. There is more than 80 percent unemployment and many live on welfare now where once the people were self-sustaining. There is a lot of alcohol and drug abuse and the cycle of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, alcohol, drugs) continues for many women and children. Hope for Healing in Christ Jesus adopted the nine step program from the Becomers Program and uses sharing circles and one-on-one. (Diocese of Keewatin)</p>

In the fall of 2000, a traditional First Nations social worker and therapist engaged female clients in an art therapy group. These clients are seeking healing from past traumas to vent, explore and grieve. This project encourages and teaches healthier coping mechanisms that enhance self acceptance, self control and on-going resolution and develop support from others. This grant will enable the purchase of art therapy supplies. ($5,000 was committed in 1999) (Diocese of Huron)</p>

Healing for front-line workers and volunteers directly involved in developing and managing community healing initiatives. The Pasqua First Nation, a community of approximately 400 people in the Qu’Appelle Valley of Sask., at least one-half of the residents are former residential school students of Marieval, Regina Industrial, Lebret, St. Paul’s, File Hills, St. Philip’s, Gordon’s and Muskowekwan. They have been providing healing initiatives for their community, funded by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation, for the past three years. (Diocese of Qu’Appelle)</p>

In the 1700s and 1800s translation was done for and by Mohawk people in cooperation with various denominations working in Mohawk Territory. Presently all of the New Testament in the Mohawk language is available except II Corinthians plus Isaiah of the Old Testament. These sacred writings have been used well and today are in great need of revision in order to be useful once again. Revisions are necessary to standardize the accepted written language by all the Mohawk communities and in keeping with the rich meanings of the old words. Reviving of the Mohawk Scriptures would have a very powerful effect on their ability to keep the language from slipping away. This is ecumenically funded. (Diocese of Montreal)</p>

This landmark event celebrated the 10th anniversary as the only totally Aboriginal healing centre for male and female residents referred by federal and provincial correctional institutions. The residents are being assisted by Elders in the construction of a traditional village, sweatlodges, tipis for circles and workshops, teaching lodges, an arbor for drumming and dancing, and a traditional Inuit meeting place. This will enable the younger generation who have learned their language in the Kwak&#8217;wala orthography. Hymnals will be used in church, teaching aid in schools, funerals, weddings in Kwakwaka&#8217;wakw communities of the north end of Vancouver Island. (Diocese of British Columbia)</p>
