Stop the Killings in the Philippines
The Anglican Church of Canada supports Kairos' response to the November 23rd massacre of civilians in the southern Philippines. In long-standing solidarity with church partners, including the Episcopal Church in the Philippines, Philippines Independent Church and the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, we call for an end to the killing of human rights defenders and for a full, impartial inquiry into what is now known as the Maguindanao Massacre. The Canadian Churches Forum for Global Ministries annually hosts an“International Visitor” providing Majority World voices to the Canadian Church. In 2009 there were three “visitors” representing voices from the Global South, Canadian First Nations, and Canada.
At the 2009 Canadian Theological Students Conference these three entered into a series of ‘trialogues’. The visitors were the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth S. Tapia, a Filipina Theologian, Bishop Mark L. MacDonald, the Anglican Church of Canada’s first National Indigenous Bishop, and Rev. Dr. Russell Daye, a Canadian theologian and United Church of Canada Minister who has also served as UCC International Personnel in Fiji.

Canadian Primate calls for action on Gaza

Archbishop Fred Hiltz, following his participation in the meeting of Anglican Primates and Moderators in Egypt from Feb. 1-5, 2009, wrote a reflection and concluded with an appeal to Canadian Anglicans to call on our government to work toward a lasting ceasefire in Gaza

Call to a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Zimbabwe on January 25, 2009
The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) is an ecumenical solidarity partner. AACC informs the justice work of KAIROS and other Canadian denominations, bringing to light the realities and responses of African church partners serving in situations of egregious human rights violations, war, famine, and human exploitation. The Church of the Province of Central Africa is a member of AACC, and is comprised of Anglican dioceses in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi.
May we remember the people of Zimbabwe on Sunday, 25th January, in solidarity with Africans and others around the world who pray and fast for a return to peace, good governance and rule of law in Zimbabwe.
World Council of Churches - Churches Advocate for Gaza/Israel peace
Some 10 international and 70 mostly national church organizations have sent the WCC news of their advocacy and awareness-raising work related to Gaza. An increasing number mention direct lobbying of governments and embassies.
Here are a couple ideas for making our efforts stronger.

Tropical Storm Arthur, the first heavy weather of the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane season, has caused flooding this past week in the Diocese of Belize, Church of the Province of the West Indies (CPWI). Bishop Philip Wright leads the diocese in efforts to assist those in need of fresh water and food. Canadian Anglican student intern, Ms. Chelsy Stevens, 2nd year Wycliffe College student from the Diocese of Edmonton, is currently serving in the village of Mango Creek, Diocese of Belize, near the affected area.

April 23, 2008 [ENS] – Saying that the time for action is now, Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul of the Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS) addressed partners from the United States and around the world who were invited to attend the April 21 House of Bishops meeting in Juba.
Highlights of the Partners in Mission and Ecojustice Committee

April 6, 2008 – The newly established Partners In Mission and Ecojustice Committee follows the tradition of the former, separate committees, and meets in different parts of our country – not just in Toronto. This allows committee members to see and learn about different parts of our church, to visit diocesan and parish ministries and to worship in local parishes and speak about their national committee and its work. This meeting was held in Brandon Manitoba, April 3-6, 2008 at the invitation of the diocesan bishop, James Njegovan, and committee member Nigel Packwood.
