The offices of The Anglican Church of Canada along with the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund and the Anglican Foundation will be closed on Remembrance Day, November 11.
Archbishop Fred Hiltz, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada sent the following message to staff at Church House yesterday.
“In light of all that is going on in the world, in the aftermath of the events in Ottawa a couple of weeks ago, and the deaths of Corporal Nathan Cirillo while on honour guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent in Quebec, it seems to me that November 11 should not be a “business as usual” day with only a two-minute pause for silence at 11 a.m. I really believe we should have an opportunity to observe this Remembrance Day differently and my sense is that many of us are feeling that way.
I want to encourage us, one and all to wear a poppy and go to a Remembrance Day ceremony at the cenotaph where we live, watch the ceremonies from Canada’s National War Memorial in Ottawa, or take some time for quiet reflection wherever we may be. With all Canadians let us remember all victims of war, the veterans of all the conflicts in which Canada has been engaged, and all our men and women in uniform today. And let us be united in prayer for peace among all peoples.
Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of
truth and peace proceed: kindle, we pray
thee, in the hearts of all people the true love
of peace, and guide with thy pure and peaceable
wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of
the earth; that in tranquility thy kingdom may go
forward, till the earth is filled with the knowledge
of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
