A #heartbeatprayer from the Diocese of Fredericton

Lord God of Hope and Love, we thank you for a Church that welcomes and encourages believers to know the Risen Christ. We praise you for a Church with a rich history, yet our hearts ache with the loss of so many in church, and with the current divisions we see in our Communion. Our hearts are broken by conflict and the fact that our General Synod in 2019 will divide so many faithful witnesses.

We pray for a welcoming and loving Church that is a safe place for all believers and for those seeking Jesus the Christ. We are inspired by the Book of Common Prayer’s Prayer for the Church on p. 39:

MOST gracious God, we humbly beseech thee for thy holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth; in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where any thing is amiss, reform it; where it is right, strengthen and confirm it; where it is in want, furnish it; where it is divided and rent asunder, make it whole again; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We praise you Heavenly Father for a Church that values sensible, personal devotion, in a friendly and welcoming environment. We celebrate our diversity within the Anglican Communion and especially here in Canada.

Our hearts ache for a community that often is inward looking, focusing on saving buildings rather than celebrating and offering salvation to people broken and searching for hope.

We pray that our Church can uplift the attractive Christ who seeks Unity and Godly love in the Church and in each persons heart.
