The Eighth National Sacred Circle

“Show to the Indigenous Peoples of Canada your will for us in the life of your church. Give to us eyes to see the sacred way you have prescribed for us. Teach us to walk in the footsteps of your son, the Chief of chiefs. May our hearts beat as one with yours.”
This prayer was at the heart of the eighth Anglican Indigenous Sacred Circle, which took place in August, 2015 in Port Elgin, Ont. Indigenous Anglicans from across Canada, along with international partners, many Anglican Bishops and Primate Fred Hiltz met, for five days to pray, worship and discern the will of God in their journey toward self-determination. The above video is a documentary account of that meeting.
2012 Sacred Circle
In August of 2012, Indigenous Anglicans met in Pinawa, Man. Two hundred people travelled from all across Canada to ponder the implications of the Covenant and to plot a course for the Sacred Circle’s theme, “Walking the Dream.”
2009 Sacred Circle
Indigenous Anglicans met in Port Elgin, Ont. to explore the theme, “The mighty wind of the spirit, the new beginning” and to discuss alternative forms of governance.
2005 Sacred Circle
In Pinawa, Man., 115 Indigenous Anglicans gathered with the Primate and seven Canadian bishops. Participants put forward a proposal for a national Indigenous bishop.
2000 Sacred Circle
In Port Elgin, Ont., Indigenous Anglicans pondered the implications of the covenant and discerned the next steps in their theme, “Walking A New Vision.”
1997 Sacred Circle
“Our journey of spiritual renewal” is the theme that shaped the third Anglican Indigenous Circle, held in Lethbridge, Alta.
1993 Sacred Circle
“Dancing The Dream” documents the second national Native Convocation in Minaki, Ont. At this gathering, Archbishop Michael Peers apologized for the Anglican Church of Canada’s involvement in residential schools.
1988 Sacred Circle
The first Native Convocation gathered 180 Canadian Anglicans in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. to share their experiences and dreams.
