Biographical Sketch:
Charles James Stewart (1775-1837) was educated at All Soul’s College, Wigtonshire, Scotland and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, England. Ordained deacon in 1798 and priest in 1799. Appointed rector of Orton Longueville, 1798-1807 and travelling missionary in Quebec and Ontario for the Society of the Propagation of the Gospel, 1819-1825. Bishop of Quebec, 1826-1837.
