General Synod Treasurer Michèle George has announced her resignation, effective October 1, 2012. Ms. George, who was hired in 2009, said she wishes to retire and spend more time with family.
“We are blessed to have had Michèle as our Treasurer,” wrote the Primate, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, in a memo to all staff.
“Working closely with the Finance Committee she has enabled our Church to set its sights on sustainable balanced budgets. We have all benefited from her expertise and experience in financial management and from her deep commitment to helping us steward our financial resources in the service of God’s mission.”
“We honour her desire to retire and we pray for many blessings in a changed pace of life.”
Ms. George is a chartered accountant with experience in the health care and not-for-profit sectors. Before coming to General Synod she served as chief financial officer and business administrator for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, a Roman Catholic organization.
Ms. George holds a bachelor of commerce degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, and a certificate in Catholic leadership from St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto.
