Priorities group recommends redeployment of Anglican Book Centre resources

The working group appointed by the Council of General Synod to review priorities in light of declining revenues has released two documents that summarize the outcomes of its first meeting.

The Prioritized Operational Plan Working Group (POP) is recommending that grants to the Council of the North be frozen at the 2006 level for the next five years and that the 2007 subsidy for the Anglican Journal also be maintained at this year’s level.

The group also recommends that Anglican Book Centre resources be redeployed to provide a state-of-the-art web site and enhanced telephone sales services and that the bookstore be closed by next July. Bookstore sales, the group notes, have been declining for several years while sales by telephone and through the web are rising.

The two POP documents — a summary of the group’s first meeting and a statement to the church about the bookstore — were released to Church House staff at a meeting this morning.
