The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada is pleased to announce that Henriette Thompson has been hired as the new Director of the Partnerships department. Ms. Thompson will start at General Synod on March 12.
Henriette Thompson has most recently worked as Associate Dean at the Institute of Christian Studies, a job she began in September 2006. Her education includes a Master of Management (National Voluntary Sector Leadership) Degree from McGill University and a BA from York University (Political Science). She previously worked with World Vision Canada for 13 years in various capacities: as the Director of Advocacy and Education, as Program Manager for the East Africa Region, as Coordinator of World Vision’s Gender Self Assessment project, and as a Process Analyst for a large change initiative at World Vision International.
She continues to actively participate in ecumenical justice work with churches and coalitions on issues of gender, environment, trade, aid, conflict, and HIV and AIDS.
“The committee feels that Henriette Thompson has the necessary background and skills needed to take on the role of Director for this very important department within the General Synod,” said General Secretary, Archdeacon Michael Pollesel.
The Partnerships department oversees the mission and justice work of the Anglican Church of Canada, both internationally and domestically. The work of this diverse department includes Volunteers in Mission, Ecojustice advocacy, the Anglican Healing Fund, and the Canadian Companion Diocese Program.
Ms. Thompson will replace outgoing Director of Partnerships, Dr. Ellie Johnson, who is retiring March 31.
