The Anglican Church of Canada has reached a tentative agreement with a Toronto developer on the sale of its national office property.
Under the agreement between the church and The Philmor Group Ltd. of Toronto, the national offices at 600 Jarvis Street just south of Bloor Street would be demolished and a high-rise condominium building erected on the site.
The church’s offices would move to a new building on Hayden Street a stone’s throw from their present location. Under the agreement, the General Synod (national organization) of the Anglican Church would occupy the basement and first four floors of the new, 16-storey building. The remainder of the building would consist of rental units for seniors.
The present site of the church’s national office is jointly owned by General Synod and St. Paul’s Anglican church on Bloor Street. Discussions between General Synod and St. Paul’s on the implications of the sale and move are continuing.

The agreement between the church and the developer calls for the move of the church’s national offices to be completed by the spring of 2002.
Part of the planned move calls for the church’s book store, the Anglican Book Centre, to have street frontage, possibly on Bloor Street. The bookstore is presently located on the ground floor at 600 Jarvis St.
