Resource guide on human sexuality now online

A resource guide produced by the Faith, Worship and Ministry (FWM) Committee of the Anglican Church of Canada to help dioceses and parishes engage in discussions on human sexuality is now available online.

The resource guide is in response to a motion passed by General Synod in 2004, which asked the FWM committee to prepare resources for the church to use in addressing issues relating to human sexuality including the blessing of same-sex unions and the changing definition of marriage in society.

Some diocese and parishes have done extensive study and already engaged in discussions on blessing same-sex unions, while others are beginning that process, said Canon Linda Nicholls, FWM coordinator for dialogue. “The resource guide is not meant to reinvent the wheel, but to continue fostering the discussions using already existing materials.”

The guide includes a list of study guides, a bibliography and videos. It is based on extensive materials produced by dioceses, General Synod and other churches. It also includes a list of definitions and suggestions for establishing discussion guidelines, said Canon Nicholls.

Plans are underway to translate the terminology list into different languages used in the Anglican Church of Canada.

The materials in the guide represent different positions, but are not exhaustive. Suggestions for other materials are welcome, said Canon Nicholls.

The guide is posted on the website as a PDF file, making it easy for people to download and print.
