The Associated Church Press has rewarded the General Synod 2001 coverage by three of the national church’s media: website, Anglican Journal and MinistryMatters.
In an awards ceremony at the recent North America-wide ACP convention in Shocco Springs, Ala., the Anglican Church of Canada’s website, www.anglican.ca, received an honourable mention in the website category of convention or meeting coverage. The judges described the website’s coverage as “visually appealing” and “user-friendly”
The Anglican Journal, national newspaper of the Anglican Church of Canada, won an honourable mention in the newspaper division in the same category.
MinistryMatters, meanwhile, picked up an award of merit in the magazine category of best convention or meeting coverage.
The www.anglican.ca site also won an honourable mention for its news story about the bureaucratic hoops put before organizers wanting to serve communion wine at a General Synod worship service at a hockey rink.
“Vibrant writing keep the story moving,” wrote the judges.
Anglican Journal also won an award of merit in the category of best department by a newspaper, newsletter or news service, for its monthly profiles of individual dioceses.
The only other Canadian ACP winner was the United Church Observer, the United Church of Canada’s magazine. The Observer won an award of excellence in the category of biographical profile, plus three honourable mentions.
During the convention, Leanne Larmondin, website manager of the Anglican Church of Canada, was elected to serve on the ACP board of directors.
The Associated Church Press is an 86-year-old professional association of 175 religious publications, websites and other media organizations.
