Donor complaint reveals telephone scam

At least two donors to The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund have reported a telemarketing scam soliciting donations on behalf of the “Primate’s Fund” or some related name. The donors are from Eastern Ontario and from Newfoundland.

The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) does not solicit donations via telephone or use a telemarketing company to do so. The PWRDF direct donor list is held in strict confidence and access is restricted to appropriate staff only.

Anglicans who do wish to donate to PWRDF online can still do so safely by going to the website. It will take the donor to the Canada Helps feature, a safe and secure place through which donations can be made to PWRDF.

Should you receive a phone call from a telemarketer and the number shows up on your call display, please record the number and then let PWRDF know and it will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Please call 1-866-308-7973 to speak with Barbara Wilkins, Donor Relations staff, during business hours or to leave your message.

Giving to The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund through your parish or directly is still the best option for those wishing to support this worthwhile ministry.
