New essays on the blessing of same-sex unions

Twelve of Canada’s finest theologians explore issues relating to same-sex blessings in a series of essays now posted online. These essays by members of the Primate’s Theological Commission form the third and final part to the Galilee Report, which considered questions of human relationships and the blessings of same-sex unions.

The first two parts, a report on the commission’s discussion and the essay “Integrity and Sanctity” were posted in May 2009.

The Galilee Report is a response to two areas of study presented to the commission by the 2007 meeting of General Synod, the Anglican Church of Canada’s governing body:

  • The theological question of whether the blessing of same-sex unions is a faithful, Spirit-led development of Christian doctrine
  • Scripture’s witness to the integrity of every human person and the question of the sanctity of human relationships

General Synod requested that the commission respond by the next national meeting in 2010.

Canadian Anglicans are also invited to send in their responses to the Galilee Report, either by emailing the Rev. Canon Alyson Barnett-Cowan, director of Faith, Worship, and Ministry, or sending a letter to
