National Indigenous Anglican Bishop Mark MacDonald adapted this service from a traditional Eastern Orthodox service for the Great Blessing of Water. For the Orthodox, this great feast marks the baptism of Christ and is celebrated Jan. 19. Indigenous Anglicans are beginning to use this liturgy as a way to acknowledge the sacredness of the land.
